Emowamba Yapung shares the story of family connection and the journey across country from Western NSW to the beautiful shores of Lake Macquarie on Awabakal lands.

A large red gathering circle on the bottom right of the canvas depicts growing up in Western NSW. This imagery flows upward, as people symbols follow a pathway and gather at the centre of the design and are embraced within blue water imagery, highlighting the move to settle at Lake Macquarie on the East Coast of NSW.

The central gathering circle together with people symbols represents the family being interwoven within the local community, on the lake and the connections, friends and relationships that have grown, as they’ve put down roots on the land of Awabakal.

A backdrop of songlines highlights country, inclusive of the hills and plains of the Awabakal and the natural rugged terrain of Western NSW.  Middens, which are discarded shell after traditional feasting on shellfish around our waterways, flow across the bottom of the artwork, connecting both locations, as these are prevalent around all of our waterways on country.  Two Elders symbols, seen as a double bar design within the design, bring an acknowledgment of  traditional custodians of country from the West to Coastal NSW.

The pathway continues onward and upward within the design reflecting the family continuing to thrive and grow into the future across generations past, present and emerging.

As an artist, I enjoy the creative journey of collaboration experienced when connecting directly with people, to create personalised artwork. I welcome opportunity to create commissioned artworks for individuals, groups or professional organisations.  My goal in accepting commission is for the process to be both gratifying for me, as an artist and pleasurable for those who have decided to integrate my art into their living or working environment.

I invite you to view my past works, current collections and view testimonials to gain an insight into who I am as a person and an artist. Let’s see how we might work together to create a uniquely individual artwork for your home or office.
